About five years ago, I learned about a family secret that changed everything I thought I knew about myself. I was adopted at birth, a story my very loving parents had taken to their graves. Through DNA testing, I identified my birth family, who had been living only 10 miles away from my childhood home -- and looking for me.
I'm beyond blessed to have two families now, and I'm writing about this and what it's like to be a late-discovery adoptee.
I'm also a fiction writer (MFA '95, American University) and active in the Washington, DC literary community. I'd love to hear from other who've experienced such life-changing discoveries and anyone who I'm privileged to have reached through sharing my stories.
